Attorneys, CPAs, and EAs:  Help a Grandmother Get Her Lights Turned Back On.

The Community Tax Law Project (CTLP) is conducting a new initiative in response to a multitude of collection cases resulting from the economic downturn.  We need your help!

Earn 2 CLE credit hours for $20 and help a grandmother get her lights turned back on.

Many of CTLP’s clients are elderly, disabled, or unemployed. The IRS can take Social Security, disability, and other benefits. Grandmother can’t pay her light bill because the IRS took her money. She and other clients qualify to have their accounts placed in currently-not-collectible (CNC) status but CTLP currently does not have the resources to quickly resolve these cases.

We need your help!  We are conducting a 2-hour CLE that will provide you with a brief overview of IRS collection processes and a workshop on how to complete a collection information statement and get a taxpayer in CNC status.  No prior tax experience necessary!

After the CLE, you will attend one of our Saturday morning Taxpayer Assistance Days where you will be paired with a client to complete the collection statement and take next steps. CTLP staff will be on hand to answer questions and guide you in the process. Or you may choose to take a case on your own. Of course, we will provide mentoring assistance as needed.

You will:
  • Reap enormous personal benefits from helping those most in need
  • Be showered with appreciation from those you help
  • Complete representation in a short period of time (generally 3-6 hours)
  • Fulfill your pro bono commitment
  • Earn 2.0 CLE/CPE credit hours

Please see the flyer and registration form for more information.
